Want an EASY and fast recipe for chicken that is ready in an hour or less? Just slap it in the oven and BOOM, it’s done!
You can make it with or without veggies in the bag. Whip up some McCormicks Chicken Gravy and have something truly delicious to serve over mashed potatoes! No joke.
You can make this as an oven bag chicken breast, boneless skinless breast/thighs or bone in chicken pieces. I’ve cut up an entire chicken and used that too. All works equally well!
Here’s What You’ll Need
Just two ingredients, really.
- 2 lbs chicken (bone in or out) (skin on or off).
- One Bag ‘N Season Original Chicken Packet
- OPTIONAL: Veggies to add into the bag (4 Cups) – see tips and tricks.
Here’s How You Do It
- Place Chicken in the bag
- Sprinkle with seasoning
- Close up the bag
- Poke 4 holes.
- Bake.
It’s really that easy!
Special Equipment
You don’t need any special equipment at all for bake in a bag chicken just a 9×13 baking dish or a rimmed baking sheet to hold the bag. That’s it!
This is the 9×13 pan that I have and am using in the video near the bottom of this article. The lid makes it so easy to save leftovers or to take items to a pot luck!

Yes, Absolutely! You can freeze this chicken once it has been baked. Simple enclose in a freezer safe package, remove as much air as possible and then freeze for up to 3 months.
It will safely last up to 5 days in the refrigerator if kept covered!
Tips and Tricks for Perfect Bake in Bag Chicken
- Use bone in chicken, it gives more flavor, cooks for the right time. If you choose to use boneless skinless adjust cooking time down. Be sure to use a Thermoworks thermometer and cook to internal temperature of 165.
- Bag directions calls to add 4 cups of veggies. You’ll want to add a softer veggies like green beans or peas. Harder veggies like potatoes or carrots will need to be par cooked to soften. Don’t add more than 4 cups or it won’t get done in the allotted time.
- If you like a gravy, use the McCormick gravy packet. It’s a great flavor together.
- Use a decent 9 x 13 pan or a baking sheet with rim. It’s messy otherwise. You can store the dish with the bag in it if you are in a rush. No harm.
- You can freeze the chicken once it’s cooked, use freezer safe package, remove the air and store in freezer up to 3 months.
- It Lasts covered for 5 days in the fridge.

Bake in Bag Chicken
Ingredients
- 1 package McCormicks Bake N Bag and Seasoning for Chicken
- 2 lbs Chicken bone in or bone out, skin on or skin off
- 4 cups soft vegetables optional
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350. Remove the baking bag from the packet. Open the seasoning packet side of the package and set aside.
- Place the chicken pieces in the baking bag set into the 9×13 baking dish.
- Sprinkle with 90% of the seasoning mix. If using veggies, place those on top of the chicken and sprinkle with the remaining seasoning mix. Close the bag loosely with the enclosed tie.
- Place the entire dish in the oven and bake for an hour (start with 25 minutes if using boneless chicken, check temp and remove when internal temp is 165).
- After an hour, check internal temp and remove when reaches 165. Allow to rest for 5-10 minutes. Open bag by slicing down the center (or removing the closure). Serve chicken hot.
