Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
Different air fryers requires more or less cooking time. Unfortunately, there needs to be some leeway in the cook times for this reason. Check them after 15 minutes and if they aren’t as crispy as you want, go for another 5 minutes and repeat until they are as crispy as you prefer.
After 15 minutes, shake the potatoes around and then let them toast a bit more. This helps get them done on all sides.
There are MANY air fryers on the market and the best answer is buy the one you can afford and that fits in your kitchen. My own air fryer is part of my toaster oven. My daughter has a black egg shaped deal that only air frys.
Tips and Tricks
- Cut the potatoes pretty small – about the size of a pencil eraser.
- Cut the onions about the same size as the potatoes. If you enjoy the flavor of onion but not the texture, you can grate the onion on a grater over the potatoes.
- If you do not have an onion, you can sprinkle the potatoes with onion powder instead.
- Give the potatoes a good spray with some cooking oil and a good splash of salt.
- Half way through the cook time, give the potatoes a good shake to stir them up so that they toast evenly.
- If you want to keep your air fryer as clean as possible, line with aluminum foil before air frying.
- Air frying times vary based on the type of air fryer you own. Start with 15 minutes of cooking and increase by 5 minute increments until as toasty as you please. Taste and give a dose of salt before serving.
