Frequently Asked Questions

How Long Does This Last?

This sauce will last about 2 weeks if you keep it covered in the refrigerator

Can I Freeze This?

Yes, you can freeze it, but you probably don’t need to since it lasts so long in the refrigerator.

Tips and Tricks

  • There really aren’t that many tips and tricks because all you really need to do is to stir it all together.
  • Do this with a spoon but if you have it, a whisk will work much better.
  • Be sure to refrigerate for an hour so that the flavors can work together better.
  • If you look at Wikipedia, you’ll find out that there is some discrepancy about when cocktail sauce got it’s start. Some claim in the 80’s (but because I’m so old, I can tell you for SURE it was created before that) and others claim it was earlier.

Substitutions

Horseradish – be sure to use the regular horseradish and not the creamed horseradish. If all you have is the creamed, use to taste.

Lemon – it’s possible to substitute lime instead, fresh lemon juice or the bottled lemon.

Hot Sauce – You’ll want to use something like Texas Pete rather than a Franks type Wing Sauce

Fish Sauce – totally optional but adds a bang of flavor to your sauce.

Special Equipment

You really don’t need any special equipment for prawn cocktail sauce but a good whisk helps and I love my set of these mixing bowls.

As I sit here finishing writing about cocktail sauce, I am in the ER waiting on news about my mom. If you are my age, you’ll know that the ER is a place we tend to hang out with our parents. It’s a stage of life, unfortunately.

Sometimes saving doesn’t necessarily mean “saving to live longer in this world”. It’s a thought we all have to get comfortable with at some point.

For today though, my mom is going to be ok. Thank God we are forgiven.

James 5:15

And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
