Tips and Tricks

  • Heat the liquid well with the butter in it so that the butter has a chance to really melt well.
  • Mix and let stand for a few minutes to allow the grits time to absorb the liquid.
  • Add salt and pepper after tasting, sometimes the packet grits are a bit salty on their own.
  • Always add that cheese for flavor!
  • A single serving is one packet, but I find that it takes two packets to make an amount that comes close to filling me up.

PRO TIP: I love to add a dash of garlic powder to mine for an added pop of flavor.

PRO TIP 2: Always top grits with your favorite breakfast ingredients!

Substitutions

There’s not much to substitute here, but the basics are…

Grits – Of course you can substitute coarsely ground grits, 5 Minute Grits or any other kind of grits, but then it will be different directions!

Milk – you can substitute any milk substitute, but it will taste different. We recommend whole milk, but any percentage works. Evaporated milk mixed half and half with water works well too.

Butter – Margarine or butter substitute.

Cheese – Feel free to leave this out or use a cheese substitute.

A Verse to Share

Today a nice young lady arrived at my back door to find me in my pajamas and my hair standing up on my head. She shared this Bible verse and then left. I’ve never seen her before. She didn’t leave any information. Didn’t say where she was from. I’m going to assume that she is an angel because I needed to hear this today.

Matthew 6:25

Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
