Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

Do I Use Whole Broccoli or Just the Crowns?

Either is fine, it depends on what you prefer. The crowns alone are usually preferred, but if you choose to include some of the stalks, cut them thin.

Can I Freeze This Broccoli?

Yes, you can. Simply place into a freezer safe container, remove as much air as possible and freeze. That said, the broccoli will change in texture some as it thaws.

How Long Is It Good For?

This broccoli will last for 5 days if covered and refrigerated.

What Do I Serve with Steamed Broccoli?

Microwave steamed broccoli is a great side dish for all kinds of things. We love chicken and rice or baked potato casserole especially!

Tips and Tricks

  • Always start with fresh broccoli. Look for bright green florets and cut edges that haven’t gone brown yet. If you notice some brown, cut it off. If there are discolored areas on the florets, cut that off as well.
  • Cut your larger florets in half or in quarters before steaming.
  • Be careful when removing the broccoli from the microwave, steam is very hot and I don’t want you to be burned. It’s best to use oven mitts to protect your hands.
  • Don’t go overboard adding water, we don’t want to boil the broccoli, we just want to steam it.
  • Broccoli is in season all year round in the United States, but is a summer vegetable. You can learn everything you want to know about broccoli here.

PRO TIP: For great flavor, especially when using the broccoli as a side or to top a baked potato, add a pat of butter (about a Tbs), a pinch of salt, pinch of pepper, pinch of red pepper flakes and 1/4 tsp garlic powder before microwaving. This adds tremendous flavor!
