WILL YOU BE PUNISHED?
I don’t think so. At least I have never experienced that to be true. I have neglected my tithing quite a bit in my adult life, I am ashamed to admit.
What will happen if you don’t tithe then? Similarly, what will happen if we do tithe? What difference does it make at all?
BUT WHAT IF I DO?
Let’s look into it a bit. There is a TON about tithing in the Old Testament. I encourage you to go look that up for yourself. You’ll see how important tithing is for the early church.
However, as Christians, we follow the teachings of Jesus and we need to look at what Jesus said. Did Jesus say 10% is the required tithe? Did he say that this is before or after taxes?
EXACTLY WHAT DID JESUS SAY?
Guess what, Jesus did not say that. Instead Jesus gets at the basis of what a tithe is about. Jesus wants to know that God is a priority to you and that giving a portion of your income demonstrates that Jesus is FIRST in your life. So, check it out, are you putting Jesus first OR are you putting yourself and your desires first?
I have to admit, this is a hard thing for me too.
ULTIMATELY, IT COMES DOWN TO THIS…
You know, Jesus can do his work just fine without me OR my money. Our God is THAT powerful. However, since Christianity is something I’m “all in” on, I think it best to help the cause and give as I am able because I know it my heart it is the right thing.
Tithing is about me and where my heart is. It’s a discipline that demonstrates obedience, willingness and an understanding about the sacrifices that Jesus made for me. I hope you will join me.
